Rhetorical analysis

“Let’s chat about your first day of school”

In this blog, the author discusses the upcoming school season for most people, students and parents alike. She recalls her first day of school, in Kindergarten, dealing with her parents’ divorce and insisting on dressing herself, even though her dad tries to stop her from wearing her shoes on two different feet. At the end of the day she regrets not listening to her father’s advice.
This blog post appeals to pathos because the author ties a direct link with any reader. Most people that would be reading her blog have had their first day of school, some recalling kindergarten, high school, or a college first day experience. The author’s personal story appeals to the reader because everyone can relate with some event from their own life.
This blog appeals to ethos because, at the end of the post, the author admits she was wrong about her shoes and should have let her father fix them before her first day of school. Everyone has made a mistake in their life, or not heeded the advice they should have. So with her story, the author can really relate to the reader.
This blog appeals to logos because she uses a fact, all kids are supposed to go to school and therefore enjoy a first day of school. All readers know the experience from whichever end they may be coming from.
This article appealed to me, as this school season begins, because it brings up a memory from my very first day of school. How the times have changed, from being dropped off by my dad at school to now walking to classes on my own.
